We had been shortlisted for CISCO WIT Hackathon 2019 held on 14, March 2019 at Bengaluru. The event started with key notes from prominent women employees of CISCO, followed by a Q&A session. We then had the Hackathon which lasted for an hour and half. It comprised of 5 Questions: 2 Easy, 2 Medium and 1 Hard level question. The questions were based on Dynamic Programming, Graph and Greedy Algorithms. We were then taken for lunch and the results of the hackathon were announced after that. We were shortlisted for the interview round.
The interview had a panel of two members. We were asked questions based on our projects and areas of interests. We were then asked to wait for sometime and were then informed as being selected for the internship. We were then given the offer letter and some goodies.

Hands on Training Session on Image Processing
Dr. T. SenthilKumar, Associate Professor and K. S. Gautam, Ph. D. Scholar of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore campus, conducted a Hands-on Training Session on Image Processing for the Employees of L&T Technology Services, Mysore from June 19-23, 2017.
The session concentrated on concepts of teaching Image acquisition & generation, Image color depths, Image enhancement, Image Transformation, Image quality restoration, Image segmentation. The session was covered with hands-on training using Mat lab for learning the image processing concepts. The session also covered K-Means clustering, Neural Network for Image Classification. The session was done in a practical manner with the participants trying to experiment and validate their learnings through Mini project.

R., Faculty Sponsor, Amrita ACM Student Chapter attended The Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing (India) at Bangalore on November 16-17, 2017. Bindu K. R. was an organizing committee member in Data Science and Machine learning track. The students and faculty obtained scholarship for complimentary registration for GHCI 17 which was sponsored by ACM and ABI India.

FDP on Computational Thinking and Problem Solving was conducted from May 22-24, 2017. CTPS handling faculty members from all campuses of Amrita discussed on Spreadsheet, Scratch and Flowgorithm tools, theory topics and introduction of Physical computing using Arduino.

FDP on Computer Organization and Architecture between 26.05.2017 to 27.05.2017. A session was handled by Mr. Nippun Kumar of Bangalore campus in which basics of Verilog using Modelisim and Xilinx for FPGA hardware was taken. FPGA (Spartan -3) hardware based experiment was demonstrated.
The ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) 2016
The ACM ICPC is sponsored globally by IBM, Code Chef, Direct and Academy was held at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Coimbatore on 21st and 22nd December 2016. Over 1200 students participated in the event.
Smart Grid International Conference
The Departments of Electrical & Electronics Engineering and Computer Science & Engineering of Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore campus, organized an International Conference on Smart Grid Technologies during August 6-8, 2015 at its Coimbatore campus. More than 250 delegates from all over India and abroad attended this international conclave, which witnessed the presentation of 100 research papers in this cutting-edge area. The objective of this conference was to provide a forum where researchers in academia and industry can interact and present their latest findings, and also identify and discuss future directions in the field of smart grid and communication technologies.

A two-day Workshop on “Internet of Things (IoT) on Smart Grid” was conducted by Dr.Gurjeet Singh from Gill Instruments, Bangalore in collaboration with Texas Instruments and PTC. Conference tutorials include Smart Microgrid Simulator, Cloud computing, Big data analytics & data security, Biomass gasification, Reliability analysis for smart grid improvements, Challenges and Key Issues in Smart Grid Implementations, Hybrid energy systems. Tutorials were also on Distributed Power Grids – A Future Energy System and Maximal Secure Mitigation of Protection and Misoperations in Power Systems. The organizing chairs and Program Co-chairs of the conference were Dr.N.Radhika of CSE department and Dr.V.Vanitha of EEE department of AMRITA.
Hands-On training in Design of IoT Nodes and interfacing to Cloud was held on 28th and 29th March 2016. Students got hands-on training in design of IoT nodes using node MCU. They had Been trained in processing physical parameters like temperature, humidity, moisture and uploading them into cloud using WiFi connectivity. Bluetooth Interface and BLE with IBeacon technology was introduced and students were trained to collect the sensor informationthrough hardware to their smart phone using both BlueTooth as well as WiFi interface.

A One-day Workshop on BigDATA was conducted on 12th April 2016. Students were exposed to the current trends of utilization of REcSys2015 and Spark fundamentals. Discussion on Machine Learning algorithms which comes out of the box with MLLib. The Resource Person was Mr.Senthilkumaran from 1000Lookz, Chennai. The workshop co-ordinators were: Dr T Senthilkumar and Mr.V.Anantha Narayanan.

The Indian Space Research Organization, in its venture into engaging the student community over various prospects of Human Standard of Living, offered a one day Workshop on Remote Sensing and explained why it’s various ventures are important to the Human Community.
The guests, esteemed were Mr. Shadab and Mr. Naresh, who came to lecture the students and explored them upon the different operations that each of their satellites performed.
Abhinav, Managing Director & CEO, Cardea Labs & Cardea Biomedical Technologies, Stanford India Biodesign Affiliate gave a demonstration of MI Beat and its working mechanism. He also opened up the challenges and applications of MI Beat relevancy in curriculum in Biomedical Engineering on 10-8-2016.
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore, organized the sixth edition of “National Workshop on Computer Vision & Image Processing Techniques” during March 18-19, 2016 co-sponsored by IETE.
The objective of this workshop was to provide an opportunity for participants from academic institutions and industries to understand the research avenues in the areas of Image processing, video processing, computational intelligence and evolutionary computing. The participants for the workshop were researchers, post graduate and undergraduate students working in this specialized area. Eminent scientists and engineers delivered special lectures, tutorials and workshops in this field of research.
Around 65 participants from various institutions like Government College of Technology-Coimbatore, Coimbatore Institute of Technology, Karunya University, Periyar University, VIT etc had hands-on experience in the open source tools used for image and video processing, computational intelligence and evolutionary computing applications. We had a talk delivered by software developers from ‘1000 Lookz’, an image processing firm. This helped the participants to understand and apply computer vision, image processing and data analytics in their domains of interest. Poster and project presentation session was also organized and prizes were given for innovative projects. The workshop provided a platform for the participants to have a one to one interaction and discussion with each other and the speakers. We thank CIR for the support they provided for conducting the workshop.
Asia Amritapuri site Regional Contest @ Coimbatore conducted on 19th, 20th and 21st December, 2015. 333 teams from the top institutions like all IITs, IIITs, NITs participated in the event.
ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) 2015 was held concurrently at Amritapuri, Bangalore and Coimbatore campuses of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham on 20 and 21 December, 2015. ACM ICPC is considered as the Olympics/World Championship of Computer Programming with a total annual participation of 38,000 students from 2500 universities in 101 countries.
AMRITA has been hosting the Asia-Pacific semi-finals of this contest in India, since 2005 and has emerged as the largest ICPC site worldwide. At Coimbatore campus, the contest is organized by the department of computer science & engineering of Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore. In this prestigious contest organized @ AMRITA, 333 teams participated with representation from premier engineering colleges in India with all of the IITs, IIITs, NITs as well as foreign teams from Bangladesh being represented. ACM ICPC is sponsored globally by IBM. The AMRITA School of Engineering, Coimbatore team was ranked a credible 100th position. This is an outstanding achievement considering the fact that the best computer programmers and geeks in the country’s top universities and institutes participate in this contest, popularly known as the “battle of the brains”.

Sessions were delivered on the topic “Opportunities in dentistry for challenging applications” by Dr.Prabathsingh (Professor and Head of the department, Conservative dentistry &Endodontics ,Amrita school of dentistry , cochin).
Workshop on Mobile Education Kit based on Raspberry Pi was conducted on 24.11. 2015 by Dr. S. Ramanarayanan Reddy (HoDfor CSE Dept& Associate Professor, IGDTU for Women, Delhi).
Mozilla Localization and Translation workshop is a one-day hands-on workshop sponsored by Mozilla and ASCII on 14.11.2015. Sessions were delivered by Mr. KhaleelJageer (Mozilla rep India) and Mr. KarthicKeyan (Regional Ambassador India). Around 35 students from B.Tech CSE attended the workshop.
CodeHour , a coding competition was held on Oct. 27th and 28th, 2015 at IT Lab I and II which was jointly organized by ACM Student Chapter and ASCII .Preliminary round on Oct. 27th 2015 and finals were conducted on Oct. 28th 2015. Top three positions were given prize winning certificates.It was organised by Vinuthna ,Vandana ,Srivathsan ,Achai and Vignesh.

NSS Cleaning Programme
NSS Cleaning Programme was conducted to help the village residents in improving the condition of their life at Chinnambathy on 25.03.2017 to 31.03.2017.Another NSS Cleaning Programme was organized to clean Selva Chinithamani Kulam Lake on 12.03.2017.
To support these exceptional people is the whole idea of the program. We students of Amrita VishwaVidyapeetam, CSE Dept. volunteers stand up to take up this task of giving to someone who is not lucky or fortunate as us.On Febuary14th, the team with Asst. Professor Sabarish.B. A. , Asst. Professor S.Vidhya,went to Helping Hearts home of Children and elder people. The purpose was to give them what they need (Love, affection and care) and serve them food for the day. We also came to know that they were in need of beds, bedspreads, grocery items, sports accessories etc. which we had pleasure buying them, which was funded by Pradnya.
On the Eve of Deepavali, the department of CSE We covered five schools in C.G.Pudhur, Muruganpathy, Chinnampathy, Puthupathy and ettimadai on 05th November 2015 by 20 faculty members and 36 students. Conducted competitions for the children, Sweet distribution, Lunch and gifts of dresses, books and instructional materials.

Grace Hopper Celebration India, 2019
The Grace Hopper Celebration India is Asia’s largest gathering of women technologists. It is produced by AnitaB.org and presented in partnership with ACM India. Malavika M and Deepika J. of 2017-2021 batch received ACM student scholarship to attend the Grace Hopper Celebration, India 19 held on 6th to 8th November, 2019 in Bangalore.
Ms. Bindu K. R., Assistant Professor, Department of CSE attended the Grace Hopper Celebration, India 19 held on 6th to 8th November, 2019 in Bangalore. She was an organizing committee member for the TECH EXPO event in the conference.
The CSI student branch of Amrita School of Engineering organizes several events like guest lectures, seminars, interactions with luminaries from the industry, competitions and workshops for the students. Our CSI student chapter was adjudged as the best CSI student chapter in India for the last seven consecutive years: 2010-11, 2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15 , 2015-16, and 2016-2017. This is a spectacular achievement considering the fact that there are over 600 CSI chapters in various colleges and universities in India. The award was conferred in recognition of various technical and societal activities organized by the student chapter including expert lectures, seminars, technical workshops, short term training programs and inter-college symposia. Prof.Prashant R. Nair had been awarded CSI Academic Excellence Award in the year 2011 for maximum publishing in the CSI Communications Journal. Our CSI Student Branch Coordinator Prof. Prashant R. Nair and Dr.Shriram K. Vasudevan, Assistant Professor(Selection Grade) have been selected as CSI Distinguished Speakers among the membership base of over 120,000 all over India and abroad for the year 2016. Computer Society of India has funded for a research project titled “GPS based Location Assisting System” in the year 2015. During the CSI Annual Convention 2016, Prof. Prashant R. Nair has been awarded with Computer Society of India (CSI) Academic Excellence award and Mrs. U. M. Ramya, CSI Student Branch Counselor of Amrita School of Engineering has been awarded with Longest Continuous SBC Award.

ACM- A student branch of Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) was inaugurated on 8 January, 2009 by Dr. RaghavRao, Professor of Information Systems, State University of New York at Buffalo, USA.Currently it has more than 50 student chapter members.
IEEE Amrita, Coimbatore chapter was established on 10th December, 2007 inaugurated by Dr. T.R.Padmanabhan, Prof.Emeritus, I.T Department, Former Dean Amrita School of Engineering. The IEEE student chapter help students to access the research papers found on the IEEE database. It works to spread awareness among the students about latest technologies, that concern their respective fields, by conducting workshops and seminars which give them the necessary information. The students are encouraged to participate in various competitions and research competitions where they can improve on their skills and discover their interests in specific fields.
Mission
The IEEE student chapter actively organizes various events at the institution and has won several accolades for its performance.
We strongly believe that a student at Amrita should be a performer in all dimensions. In addition to the curriculum there are ample opportunities for the students to participate in co-curricular and extracurricular activities. They also have opportunites to conduct events both at institution level and inter-collegiate level. The department has a few clubs under which the students are encouraged to exhibit their skills, hone inter personal skills and organizing capabilities.
The Association of Students of Computer Science for Information Interchange (ASCII) is the technical association of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Amrita CodeChef Chapter is a department-wide club and we target every student who is interested in problem-solving. We conduct events and contests for students to achieve mastery in Competitive Coding. We have hosted a good number of coding contests for students to learn and practice (including long contests). For newbies, it is important for them to get the basics right. So we also conduct a lot of discussion sessions on DSA topics and editorial sessions discussing the solutions for already hosted contests to promote community learning. A Mini Long Challenge [2021 Headlines] was conducted in the Codechef platform recently, where around 76 students participated. A discussion session on the problems was also conducted to help the students understand the logic and to improve their problem-solving skills.
