The Association of Students of Computer Science for Information Interchange (ASCII) of Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore campus, conducted a Workshop on Introduction to Blockchain on August 5, 2019, supported by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and Computer Society of India Chapter (CSI).

The three-hour session from 10 AM to 1 PM was handled by Ms. Gnana Lakshmi T. C., Bengaluru. Gnana Lakshmi T. C. (Gyan) is the Leadership Fellow for Blockchain at Women Who Code. She is responsible for leading and managing the Blockchain community for WWCode across the globe. With over 6+ years of experience as a Software Developer in the corporate industry, Gyan is extremely passionate about women in technology and has been leading the Bangalore network of Women Who Code for 2+ years. She has conducted several meetups and has given several tech talks on varied technology topics like Blockchain and Machine Learning. She is also a hands-on coder and loves working on emerging technologies.

The workshop included participants from B. Tech. CSE II and III year students and Ph. D. Scholars. Topics such as Concepts on Blockchain, How, Where and Why Blockchain need be used, etc., were explained by the speaker at the beginning of the session. The later part of the session focused on how smart contracts allow the performance of credible transactions without third parties in blockchain and related hands-on on Ethereum Re-MIX IDE.

Around 40 students attended the workshop. The workshop was coordinated by Dr. N. Harini, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Computer Science, School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore and Ms. Bindu K. R., Assistant Professor, Dept. of Computer Science, School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore and student coordinators Gurram Keshav Niketh and Botta Manish Reddy.
