About

Background:

As we collectively strive to recover from the pandemic as a global community, it is of paramount importance that we reimagine a better world for everyone, touching even the most vulnerable communities.

Sustainable Development is an inclusive and holistic approach where multiple stakeholders work together to re-imagine a better world for future generations. Educational institutions have a major role to play by creating an environment of opportunities for students and faculty to imbibe and impart the principles of Sustainable Development and serve the remote sections of the society. Working on these lines, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham’s UNESCO Chair on Experiential Learning for Sustainable Innovation & Development and Amrita School for Sustainable Futures is organizing “The International Symposium on “Educational Pedagogies & Technologies for Sustainable Development (EPTS 2022)” from Monday, January 24 to Wednesday, January 26, 2022, from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM (IST) / 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM (CET) /09:30 AM to 03:30 PM (UTC). The symposium aims to showcase thinkers, experts, and practitioners in various fields to garner ideas, explore technologies, challenges, and opportunities for reimagining the educational pedagogies and technologies for sustainable development across different thematic areas.

The objectives for this symposium are:

  1. To design, develop, and implement a unique, innovative, and interdisciplinary global curriculum to build the capacity of faculty, students, and institutions to contribute to the growth of a new generation of students capable of utilizing technology for sustainable development.
  2. To conceptualize an experiential learning framework in conjunction with the worldwide academic community (students and faculty) to enable an in-depth understanding of the challenges that members of remote communities face. This will involve living in the community and eliciting their input, thus leading to co-engaging and co-designing sustainable solutions for the poorest in India. The learning will lead to the development of a ‘Decision Making and Problem-Solving Toolkit’ for Higher Academics.

The framework produced will be encoded into a collaborative technology platform integrating an end-to-end process along with capacity development, implementation, evaluation and dissemination among the partner universities, thus establishing a global network of institutions.  The online platform aims to educate students and faculty on different pathways for translating sustainable innovation and development in communities through participatory approaches. Along with this, the platform will educate students and empower communities worldwide in designing, developing, deploying, and sustaining solutions in alignment with UN SDGs.

The symposium will showcase the following:

  1. Renowned speakers presenting keynote addresses by sharing experiences in the areas of pedagogical approaches, educational technologies, and a vision for reimagining education.
  2. The keynote addresses will be followed by a panel discussion to brainstorm and ideate on the design and development of a global curriculum and an online platform for educating students and faculty on different pathways for translating sustainable innovation and development in communities through participatory approaches.  The platform aims to educate students and empower communities worldwide in designing, developing, deploying and sustaining solutions in alignment with UN SDGs.
