Amrita Center for Wireless Networks and Applications (AmritaWNA) has been granted a new U.S. patent (US20170230841A1) for its OceanNet project, developed by a team of researchers from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham.
Amrita OceanNet is an affordable wireless communication system offering internet connectivity to fishermen at sea to help them stay safe in rough conditions. The network provides connectivity up to a range of 60 km. Each boat’s coordinates, speed and course is tracked on a land-based server. SOS calls are also supported.
Shri. Prakash Javadekar, Union Minister of HRD, had inaugurated OceanNet, in the presence of Sri Mata Amritanandamayi, (Amma), Chancellor of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, on September 26, 2016.
