The students of more than twenty-five Amrita Rural Education Centers from Jammu to Kerala, celebrated International Mother Earth Day on April 22, 2018, by pledging to take care of or plant trees.
By pressing seeds of medicinal and fruit-bearing trees into handfuls of cow-dung and dirt, the children created seed-balls which they will leave out to dry. With the first rain, they will put the seed-balls in their yards, tend to them and watch them grow.
Along with this fun activity, teachers and coordinators taught valuable lessons to the village children about protecting the environment, conserving forests, preserving water bodies and preventing soil erosion.
