Amrita OLabs(Online Labs) for Science Lab Experiments was showcased at the 103rd session of the Indian Science Congress (ISC) Mega Expo “Pride of India- Frontier Science and Technologies” held at University of Mysore, Mysuru from 3rd-7th January, 2016.
The Amrita CREATE exhibit showcased research projects designed and developed by Amrita CREATE, including Intelligent Tutoring and Adaptive Assessment, Olabs for School Lab Experiments, Computer based Medical Simulation (MedSIM), e-literacy and health awareness for tribals and Rural India Tablet Education. The projects were demonstrated using different tablets and touchable screens to explain the cross platform compatibility of the projects.
The stall was installed and managed by Rathnam Chenthamarakshan, Anoop Muralidharan, Suresh D., Aswathy K. S. from Amrita CREATE. The team explained Amrita CREATE and its different research initiatives, as well as its significance in offering new possibilities of transforming concepts of present day education system. For example, an experiment in Olabs in animation and simulation modes was displayed on each screen for the visitors to test and explore the touch based technology themselves. The visitors at the stall included government officials, scientists, principals, teachers, secondary and higher secondary students and college students.
An Amrita Olabs training program was also conducted along with this event from January 4-6 (2 P.M. to 4 P.M.). Over 500 principals, teachers and students who attended the training program enrolled in Online Labs.
Thousands of national and international delegates including Nobel laureates, eminent scientists, industry leaders, policy makers, innovators and academicians converged at Mysuru. The focal theme for the 103rd session of the Indian Science Congress was “Science and Technology for Indigenous Development in India.”
The Prime Minister, Shri. Narendra Modi, delivered the inaugural address. Delivering the inaugural address, Mr. Modi stressed the importance of emphasizing scientific tools so that the country can craft sustainable solutions for modern-day challenges. He urged the scientists and innovators to realize our goals of human welfare and economic development.
Women’s Science Congress in the 103rd ISC was inaugurated by the Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Smriti Irani.
The Minister for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, Dr. Harsh Vardhan, unveiled the Indian Science Congress Mega Expo “Pride of India-Frontier Science & Technologies” on the inaugural day and this was the major attraction during the five day event. The expo was perhaps the most visited exhibition in the recent times at Mysuru. Spread over an area of approx 15,000 sqm, the expo witnessed participation from over 150 organizations from various sectors like R&D Institutes, Academic Institutes, Universities, Innovators, Defence Organizations, Ministries, Government Departments, State Governments, PSU’s, Corporate etc.
