Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore, marked the Gokulashtami festivities with great grandeur from August 23rd to 27th. The event commenced with an array of competitions encompassing art, literature, theatre, performing arts, and sports, which fostered a spirit of creativity and unity among the students. A spiritually enriching satsang delivered by Bhakti Vinoda Swami of ISKCON, themed “You are not the one you think you are,” provided profound insights into the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita and Lord Krishna’s message.
Throughout the four-day celebration, the campus was alive with devotional bhajans, cultural programs, and elaborate processions, reflecting the university’s rich cultural heritage. Traditional food stalls offered attendees an authentic culinary experience, enhancing the festive atmosphere. The culmination of the celebrations on Gokulashtami day featured special bhajans, a dramatic reenactment of Krishna’s birth, and a pooja conducted by Swami Tapasyamritananda Puri, who also distributed prasad to the devotees.
On the concluding day, Dr. Sasangan Ramanathan, Dean of Engineering, announced the results of the Gokulashtami competitions. The Mechanical Engineering Department was awarded both the Rolling Trophy and the Overall Trophy in the major department category, with the Computer Science Engineering Department securing the runner-up position. In the minor department category, the School of Agriculture achieved a notable hat-trick, winning both the Rolling and Overall Trophies for the third consecutive year. The Amrita School of Business received the runner-up trophy.
The successful execution of the Gokulashtami celebrations was made possible through the meticulous planning and efforts of the Office of Student Affairs, with support from the Ashram, management, and senior administrators. The event concluded with a profound sense of joy, unity, and accomplishment, leaving the Amrita community with cherished memories.
