The Department of English and Languages in collaboration with the Department of Visual Media and Communication of School of Arts and Sciences, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Kochi, organized a two-day national seminar on ‘Cinema and the Formation of Cultural Identities’ from February 25-26, 2016.
A grand harvest festival was held at the campus on February 6, 2016. The State coordinator of ‘SEED’, an initiative of Mathrubhumi, Sri. Vinod, spoke about the success of Mathrubhumi ‘SEED’ programme and congratulated the school on its success with organic farming. Swami Purnamritananda Puri lit the sacred lamp and inaugurated the programme.

Dr. Mohammed Hisham, ICU Clinical Pharmacist, Kovai Medical Center and Hospital Coimbatore, delivered a lecture on January 22, 2016, on the importance of rational use of antibiotics and the role of the clinical pharmacist in this area.
Dr. Sapna Varma N. K., Professor & Head, Deaprtment of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, Amrita School of Denstistry, Kochi, was an invited speaker at the International Orthodontic Conference held at Srilanka during February 5th-7th, 2016. Her topic of presentation was “The Role Orthodontists In Diagnosis and Management of Obstructive Sleep Apnea.”
Dr. Suranjana R., final-year postgraduate resident in Orthopaedics has won the best poster award at the recently held KOACON –2016 organized by Kerala Orthopaedic Association (KOA). The poster was titled ‘Unusual Case of Compressive Myelopathy.’ She was guided by Dr. Krishnakumar R., Consultant Spine Surgeon and Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Orthopaedics, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences.
‘Prabhathi’, a general quiz program for differently abled children was organized as part of Computer Society of India (CSI) student branch activity on February 18, 2016. About 450 CSI student members volunteered to organize the event and over 30 students were assigned to assist each school.
A two-day workshop on E-Learning using Articulate software was organized in the department on February 16th and 18th, 2016.
In the recently concluded 76th IAPM (Indian Association of Pathologists and Microbiologists) Kerala Chapter Meeting, held on February 13, 2016 at Trivandrum Medical College, two out of the three prizes for the case and poster presentations were bagged by postgraduate students at the Department of Pathology, Amrita School of Medicine, Kochi.
Dr. Neena Baby, Fellow in Pediatric Neurology, Amrita School of Medicine, won the best paper award for her paper titled “Efficacy, tolerability and seizure outcome of ketogenic diet in 74 children with Pharmacoresistant Epilepsy ” in the 17th Joint Annual Conference of Indian Epilepsy Association and Indian Epilepsy Society held at Visakhapatnam during February 12 – 14, 2016.
