The Department of Pathology, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi, organised a two day international seminar on ‘Amrita Annual Pathology Update 2017’ (AAPUD), July 15-16, 2017.
Amrita School of Pharmacy, Kochi, observed the International Yoga Day on June 21, 2017. The function started with a prayer by the 5th year Pharm.D. students. Principal, Dr. Sabitha M., inaugurated the function seeking the blessings of Amma by lighting the holy lamp and doing arathi followed by a short speech regarding the importance of International Yoga Day and the benefits of making yoga a part of our daily routine.

A 10-member team of surgeons at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences(AIMS) removed an Encephalocele from a 13 year old tribal boy Manikandan. The surgery lasted for 11 hours. The entire cost of the procedure was borne by Kerala Government agencies, as Manikandan’s parents, Selvan and Ramata, are from a poor socio-economic background.
Dr. Chandrashekar Janakiram, Professor, Public Health Dentistry, Amrita School of Dentistry, Kochi, was awarded the Research Scholar Fellowship for Public Health Informatics at National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR), National Institute of Health (NIH), USA for one year starting from July 2017 to June 2018.
The inauguration of the academic activities for 2017 was held on July 26, 2017. The inauguration of Vidyamritam 2017 (15th Annual Extramural Expert Lecture series) and activities of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) was also held on the same day.
Dr. Rakesh P. S., Assistant Professor in the Department of Community Medicine, Amrita School of Medicine, Kochi, has been invited by Harvard University as a visiting scientist in the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health in Boston, USA, effective July 1st, 2017.
The International Day of Yoga was celebrated at the Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham on June 21, 2017. In honor of the 3rd International Yoga Day, and the 30th anniversary of Amrita Yoga, students of the Gitamritam practiced Yoga at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham in Coimbatore.
Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) signed an MoU with Dr. B. Borooah Cancer Institute (BBCI) for clinical, academic and research collaboration. The MoU was signed by Dr. A. C. Katraki on behalf of BBCI and Dr. Debnarayan Dutta, Head, Radiation Oncology, Amrita Hospital, Kochi on March 17, 2017, at a function held at BBCI auditorium in Guwahati.
