Amrita Ph.D. Scholar, Mr. Kuruvachan K. George, has achieved global recognition in the recently held ‘Speakers in the Wild’ (SITW) Speaker Recognition Challenge organized by SRI International, Silicon Valley, United States. The speaker recognition technology developed at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham as part of his Ph.D. work secured 6th rank in the challenge.
Students of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering, Amritapuri Campus, won major prizes in several categories at the OMRG 2016 Robotics Contest held at Singapore on February 21, 2016. Twenty-one teams from different countries contested in the final round.
Anokha 2016, the sixth National level Tech-Fest of Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore, was held from the 18th to 20th February, 2016 at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore campus. Anokha 2016 is the first techfest in India with United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) accreditation. The current year’s theme of the fest, “Sustainably Developed Technopolis”, was in line with UN Sustainable Developed Goals (SDG).

Neha Kumari, a graduate of the department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering, Amritapuri campus,won first place at the 2015 KTH Masters Challenge India competition in the field of Electric Power Engineering. Neha competed against applicants from the IITs, NITs, and other highly ranked universities throughout India and was the only female finalist in the entire competition. As the first place winner, Neha secured a fully funded scholarship for a two year masters degree at the internationally reputed KTH-Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden) sponsored by ABB worth Rs. 23 lakhs, a living allowance sponsored by ABB worth Rs. 12 lakhs, and an opportunity to do a summer internship at ABB in Stockholm, Sweden.
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has had partnered with The India-Canada Centre for Innovative Multidisciplinary Partnerships to Accelerate Community Transformation and Sustainability (IC-IMPACTS) to develop and implement community-based solutions to meet the most urgent needs of Canada and India: poor water quality, unsafe and unsustainable infrastructure, and poor health from waterbornewater-borne and infectious diseases. The collaboration is to develop and test local solutions that can be scaled up across India and Canada.
Among the most exciting recent events at Amrita School of Business, Coimbatore (ASB Coimbatore) was its alumni meet, held on 23rd and 24th January, 2016. The two-day meet saw an enthusiastic participation of alumni, professors and current students.
