A 10-member team of surgeons at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences(AIMS) removed an Encephalocele from a 13 year old tribal boy Manikandan. The surgery lasted for 11 hours. The entire cost of the procedure was borne by Kerala Government agencies, as Manikandan’s parents, Selvan and Ramata, are from a poor socio-economic background.
Dr. Chandrashekar Janakiram, Professor, Public Health Dentistry, Amrita School of Dentistry, Kochi, was awarded the Research Scholar Fellowship for Public Health Informatics at National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR), National Institute of Health (NIH), USA for one year starting from July 2017 to June 2018.
