Mr. Pramod Lakshman Mahajan, a 67 year old organ donation campaigner, was felicitated on January 7, 2019, at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) through a flag-off ceremony for the next phase of his nationwide motorcycle tour to promote awareness on organ donation.

On 28th December 2018, Dr. Subramania Iyer, Chairman and Professor, Plastic Surgery and Head & Neck Surgery, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi, was awarded the prestigious SIEMENS- GAPIO (Global Association of Physicians of Indian Origin) Innovation Award in Medicine for performing ‘Hand Transplant Surgery’ for the first time in India.
A workshop on ‘Fertility Intentions and Contraceptive Practices’ training was organized by the Department of Community Medicine, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS), the Centre of Excellence and Department of Tribal Affairs, Government of India at Mata Amritanandamayi Math, Meppady, Wayanad district, between October 2nd and 3rd, 2018.
On November 27th, 2018, a team of reconstructive surgeons from Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS), Kochi, was honored by the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO) at the 9th Indian Organ Donation Day held at New Delhi, for their path-breaking achievement of conducting a ‘Hand Transplant’.
The Department of Physiology, School of Medicine, Amrita Health Sciences campus, Kochi, organized a CME (Continuing Medical Education) program on a very relevant topic called” Evolving Brain-Nature or Nurture?” on October 16th, 2018.
The annual arts festival of the Amrita School of Pharmacy, Dhwani 2018, was officially inaugurated by Principal Dr. Sabitha M. on 13th October 2018, and within ten days, 13 offstage events were conducted. On 25th October, the university art festival ‘Amrita Kalotsav’18’ was inaugurated by actor Unni Mukundan.
National Pharmacy Week was celebrated at Amrita School of Pharmacy from 19th to 26th November 2018. As instructed by Indian Pharmacy Association, the theme of this year was “Pharmacists for a Healthy India.”
An International Public Health Conference was held at AIMS November 2-3, 2018, which brought together dozens of experts from the government, NGOs, global health bodies and the corporate world to discuss the challenges facing public health in India.
