The Computer Society of India (CSI) Student Branch of Amrita School of Engineering (ASE), Coimbatore, has been adjudged as best CSI Student Branch in India for the fifth consecutive year.
Dr. Nitin Vaidya, a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, USA, visited the Coimbatore and Amritapuri campuses between January 11th–13th, 2016. During his visit to Amrita, Dr. Vaidya gave two talks, held interactive sessions with faculty members and students, discussed potential areas of collaborations, and visited several research labs.
Drinks and Drugs (D&D) Awareness Program is a series of programs initiated on the Coimbatore campus to create awareness among the students about health compromising behaviors. The program was organized by Dr. C. S. Sowndaram, Professional Counsellor, and Mrs. Rajalakshmi S. A., Department of Students Welfare, on March 3, 2016.
Amrita Ph.D. Scholar, Mr. Kuruvachan K. George, has achieved global recognition in the recently held ‘Speakers in the Wild’ (SITW) Speaker Recognition Challenge organized by SRI International, Silicon Valley, United States. The speaker recognition technology developed at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham as part of his Ph.D. work secured 6th rank in the challenge.
The research team at the Machine Intelligence Research Lab, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore, bagged the best paper award at the 12th IEEE India International Conference INDICON 2015, held at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, from 17th-20th December, 2015.
Anokha 2016, the sixth National level Tech-Fest of Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore, was held from the 18th to 20th February, 2016 at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore campus. Anokha 2016 is the first techfest in India with United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) accreditation. The current year’s theme of the fest, “Sustainably Developed Technopolis”, was in line with UN Sustainable Developed Goals (SDG).
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham won first prize in the Mime and Debate competition at the 31st Inter University National Youth Festival, “Yuva Shatha Sambhrama – 2016”, held at University of Mysore from 15th–19th February, in collaboration with the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi and Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Government of India. Nearly 70 universities from all over India participated in various events.
Amrita School of Business (ASB), Coimbatore organized a Marketing Roundtable Conference on 19th January 2016.
Among the most exciting recent events at Amrita School of Business, Coimbatore (ASB Coimbatore) was its alumni meet, held on 23rd and 24th January, 2016. The two-day meet saw an enthusiastic participation of alumni, professors and current students. Two hundred+ alumni from all walks of life, including Executive VPs, Directors, CEOs and entrepreneurs from across the globe, walked into the campus to relive their memories of their Alma Mater.
A paper titled “Small Signal Modeling of Gas Turbine Plant for Load Frequency Control” authored by S. Selvakumar and Dr. S. Balamurugan of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore Campus, received the Best Paper Award in the IEEE Biennial International Conference on Power and Energy Systems towards Sustainable Energy (PESTSE – 2016) held at Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru during January 21-23, 2016.
