Stanford University hosted a rare event in which, world renowned humanitarian leader and our Chancellor, Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma), in a dialogue with leading neurosurgeon Dr. James Doty in the packed Memorial Auditorium, shares deep insight into the immense power of compassion, whether it is in science, technology, business, or in fact, in any sphere of human activity.
Amma inaugurated the Swami Vivekananda Sarda Shati Samaroh, the 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda at Siri Fort Auditorium, New Delhi. In her speech, Amma said “We have learned to fly like birds and swim like fish, but we have forgotten to how to walk and live like human beings. Today we have knowledge, but no awareness. We have information, but no discriminative thinking.”
“When we engage others with respect, understanding and acceptance, then we will be able to communicate at the level of the heart” said Amma in her address at the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations’ (UNAOC) Regional Consultations for Asia-South Pacific, being held in Shanghai.

Amma was presented with the Interfaith Center of New York’s 4th Annual James Parks Morton Interfaith Award. The Interfaith Center of New York (ICNY) bestowed the award upon Amma for her outstanding role as a spiritual leader and humanitarian, citing in specific her Ashram’s massive relief work in the wake of the 2004 tsunami. As part of the award ceremony, Amma delivered an address on intra-religious understanding and collaboration.
