Amrita faculty member, Mr. Shyam Diwakar, Director, Computational Neuroscience and Neurophysiology, and Associate Professor at Amrita School of Biotechnology, was invited to give talks at IIT Hyderabad and IIT Madras on August 17th and 23rd August, 2017.
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham’s PhD students Hemalatha Sasidharakurup and Nidheesh Melethadathil, along with, Dr. Bipin Nair, Dean, School of Biotechnology, Amritapuri, and Dr. Shyam Diwakar, Director, Computational Neuroscience and Neurophysiology, Amritapuri, published a paper titled, “A Systems Model of Parkinson’s Disease Using Biochemical Systems Theory” in OMICS: A Journal of Integrative Biology, in the month of August 2017.
Amrita School of Biotechnology conducted a seminar titled “Phytochemicals: validation of Mother Nature’s values: A brief glimpse of evidence based research”, on 14th August, 2017, and the resource person of the event was Dr. Sanjit Dey, Professor at the Department of Physiology, University of Calcutta.
Dr. Shyam Diwakar presented ongoing work on Computational Neuroscience and his comments on future research at the one-day workshop for Young Faculty Research Fellows organised at Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru by Media Labs Asia and Ministry of Electronics and IT, Government of India on July 28, 2017.
Under the guidance of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Chancellor, Sri. Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, Amrita Yoga Amritapuri and Amrita School of Biotechnology’s Computational Neuroscience Laboratory are working on brain activities before and after yoga practice, using EEG and functional modeling on short and long term practitioners.
An article on Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham’s research,”From Waste to Wealth:Traditional Medicine, Natural Products and the Molecular Basis of Therapeutics”, has been published at the United Nations Academic Impact website.
A paper on Sakshat Amrita Virtual Labs titled, “Complementing Education via Virtual Labs: Implementation and Deployment of Remote Laboratories and Usage Analysis in South Indian Villages”, published in 2016 by International Journal of Online Engineering (iJOE), was awarded the “iJOE Outstanding Paper Award”.
Amrita School of Biotechnology (ASBT) organized a two day event called the “Biocrest 2017” on January 19-20, 2017. The International Symposium was on Microbial Pathogenesis.
Asha Vijayan, Chaitanya Nutakki (PhD students), Dhanush Kumar, a computer engineer, and Dr. Shyam Diwakar, based at the Computational Neuroscience Lab at Amrita School of Biotechnology, are working on bio-inspired robotics.
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Professor Dr. Shyam Diwakar was an invited speaker at the School of Brain Cells & Circuits “Camillo Golgi” course titled “The cerebellum inside-out: cells, circuits and functions” held from December 1-5, 2016 at Erice, Italy. He gave a talk titled “Computational Neurosciences of Cerebellar Circuit Disorders” during the round table session.
