As a part of their cultural education class, the first year students of Amrita School of Biotechnology coordinated Sanskar, a charity fundraiser benefitting the children at the Paripalli orphanage located near the school.
Students of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering, Amritapuri Campus, won major prizes in several categories at the OMRG 2016 Robotics Contest held at Singapore on February 21, 2016. Twenty-one teams from different countries contested in the final round.
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham won first prize in the Mime and Debate competition at the 31st Inter University National Youth Festival, “Yuva Shatha Sambhrama – 2016”, held at University of Mysore from 15th–19th February, in collaboration with the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi and Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Government of India. Nearly 70 universities from all over India participated in various events.
The 11th of February 2016 was the first ever International Day of Women and Girls in Science, declared by the UN in order to promote and encourage a larger number of women to take on careers in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Medicine (STEM fields).
On February 17, 2016, Dr. Mahesh Kappanayil, Senior Cardiologist from Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, gave the students of Amrita School of Biotechnology (ASBT) an insightful view of how biotechnology and medicine overlap. Dr. Mahesh, a Pediatric Cardiologist, spoke to the audience at length about two of his most recent projects at AIMS.
On January 26, 2016, Amrita Sanjeevani, the seva association of Amritapuri campus, conducted a clean-up drive at Taluk Hospital, Karunagapally.
Dr. Balakrishnan Shankar, Associate Dean of Amrita School of Engineering, Amritapuri campus, recently delivered a talk at the three-day ‘Vaicharik Kumbh’ on ‘Vigyan Evam Adhyatam’ – a ‘Science and Spirituality’ conference held at Bhopal from February 12-14, 2016.
A research team from Amrita School of Biotechnology presented posters at the 56th Annual Conference of Association of Microbiologists of India and International Symposium on “Emerging Discoveries in Microbiology” organized jointly by School of Life Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and Association of Microbiologists of India (AMI), Delhi from December 7-10, 2015.
Dr. K. P. Subbalakshmi, Professor, Stevens Institute of Technology (SIT), New York, United States, addressed the students and faculty members of Amrita Center for Cybersecurity Systems and Networks, Amritapuri Campus, via A-VIEW (Amrita Virtual Interactive e-Learning World) on October 14, 2015. The talk was titled “Challenges in Social Media Security and Forensics.”
On February 11th-12th 2016, the classrooms and labs of Amrita School of Biotechnology (ASBT) were deserted– an unusual sighting on most working days. The students, staff, and faculty members were not to be seen in the biotechnology building, but were instead found at the Amritapuri campus sports ground for the annual ASBT Athletic Meet.
