During November 12th and 13th, 2016, over 2000 volunteers participated in a massive clean-up drive at Sabarimala in Kerala. Amrita volunteers have been part of the cleanup drive for seven consecutive years.
Dr. P. Ram Manohar, Research Director, Amrita Centre for Advanced Research in Ayurveda, conducted a pre-conference workshop at Ayurvedic Point, Milan, Italy, on 17th September, 2016. The workshop, held on the eve of the Third International Congress on Ayurveda, focused on: the future in tradition, the use of Sanskrit in the classic texts, and study and comments on the sutras.

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham participated in the 12th FICCI Higher Education Summit 2016, a global conference and exhibition, held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, from 10th to 12th November, 2016. The summit was inaugurated by Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on November 10th.

The United Nations has officially made Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham India’s first-ever UNESCO Chair on Gender Equality & Women’s Empowerment. The official bestowing of the UNESCO Chair took place before an audience of 8,000 people during a spiritual programme of the University’s Chancellor Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi in Paris on October 30, 2016.
Amrita Darshanam- International Centre for Spiritual Studies, in association with Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), hosted a National Seminar on “Kerala School of Astronomy and Mathematics: Contributions and Contemporary Relevance” on November 4th-5th, 2016, at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri Campus, Kollam.
Sreeram Kongeseri from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham was among 50 youth leaders from more than 30 countries selected to present and deliberate solutions for the realization of SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals).
