The first ever Developer Weekend was organized in Amrita School of Engineering (ASE), Bengaluru on October 1st and 2nd and for the first time a grand total of 630 student developers came together to celebrate a weekend with developer activities.
On July 13th, 2016 Dr. P. Ram Manohar, Research Director, Amrita Centre for Advanced Research in Ayurveda at the Amrita School of Ayurveda, was honoured with the Bharadwaja Puraskaram (Award) in memory of Late Vaidyamathom Valiya Narayanan Namboothiri for outstanding contributions in the field of Ayurvedic research during the 6th Annual Day Celebrations of Poonthottam Ayurvedashram, Cherpulassery, Palakkad.
Scientists at the Amrita Centre for Nanosciences and Molecular Medicine at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Kochi, have come a step closer to using photodynamic therapy for treating residual cancer cells of a high-grade brain tumour (glioblastoma). Photodynamic therapy uses a photosensitive drug that becomes active under the action of light and converts molecular oxygen into reactive oxygen species that kill cancer cells.
The students of different departments of the School of Arts and Sciences, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Kochi campus, accompanied by staff members visited the “Space Expo 2016” organized by ISRO at Kochi from October 5-10, 2016.

Amrita Center for Nanosciences and Molecular Medicine scientists Dr. Shantikumar V. Nair and Dr. Manzoor Koyakutty invented a technology that enables cancer detection in less than 30 minutes without a hospital visit. This will enable early diagnosis and treatment that are vital for curing several forms of the disease. The technology uses a laser with a nano substrate to detect pre-cancerous and cancerous cells.
On 7th October, 2016, a talk on IoT was conducted by Dr. Veena M. N., Associate Professor, PES College of Engineering, Mandya. During the session, she had observed the IoT (Internet of Things) to be the physical world itself which had become a type of information system.
