The Amrita Shilpa Kalakshetra was established with a mission to revive the traditional Indian art forms like Wood Carving, Sculpting, Painting etc. Practiced by only a few groups of communities, these fine arts are slowly disappearing into oblivion because the skillsets required for these crafts remained family secrets within a small group of artisans. Through a collaboration between the Government of India and Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, the Center seeks to keep these ancient art forms alive through scientifically designed courses. Providing full financial support with stipends is a huge encouragement to attract talent and the training helps the budding artisans to improve the quality of the artefacts. Our efforts help to build a financially viable career choice for these artisans by empowering them to find global markets.
Apply NowCourses were designed to give sufficient exposure in traditional Shilpa Shastra(Talamana Sastra), high end machinery, CNC, Clay modeling, mural painting, doll making, cement relief designs, stone carving apart from conducting regular classes on Wooden Carving. The students skills were enriched with personality development classes, Yoga and Meditation.
Most of students trained at the skill centre are self employed and earning a livelihood of Rs 50,000 per month in sculptural domain. The ASK also received many awards and is recognised as the best training institute for reviving traditional sculptural Skills.
