In 2015, the Government of India launched the Digital India program to bridge the gap between urban and rural areas by promoting investment in digital infrastructure, fostering digital literacy, and expanding online services provision. The digital India initiative enables access to better education, health care, and agriculture services and helps ensure transparency and accountability. Digital India is pitched as the instrument for Atma Nirbhar Bharat.
Coincidentally, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development set by the United Nations emphasizes that ending poverty and other deprivations in development goes together with improving health and education, tackling environmental challenges, increasing economic growth through decent employment, human development, and protecting the most vulnerable communities and social groups. Digital Governance or E-Governance is a significant catalyst to achieve these Sustainable Development Goals. Digital government supports the Decade of Action through its growing role in delivering sustainable, inclusive, and equitable services to everyone, everywhere – leaving no one behind.
