Report on the Observance of Anti Ragging week

2024

Amrita College of Nursing is committed to ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all students. Ragging, a menace in many educational institutions, is strictly prohibited at Amrita College of Nursing. As per UGC directives, the week from 12th -18th August 2024 was dedicated to taking anti-ragging measures and spreading awareness among students of Amrita College of Nursing. This report highlights the various initiatives undertaken to maintain a ragging-free campus. The campaign activities were conducted throughout August 2024.

Awareness sessions on Anti-Ragging were organized for BSc Nursing students to encourage them to contribute to a positive campus atmosphere. Students from each batch made posters and displayed them on the Students Nurses Association Notice Board to visually convey the message against ragging. Apart from that Anti Ragging posters were displayed in various places on campus.

Several competitions among students and faculty members were conducted. Competitions such as Essay Writing, Logo Designing, Quiz, and slogan-making competitions were conducted. Documentaries and videos from UGC were displayed with students to encourage them to express their thoughts on the importance of a ragging-free campus. Newly joined students were encouraged to report any incidents or concerns they may have.

As directed by the UGC in connection with the G20 India 2023, Amrita College of Nursing conducted the Anti Ragging week celebrations from 12th to 18th August 2023. The objective of the program was to brief the students about the awareness and consequences of ragging, the support services available, and the rules and regulations related to ragging.

On August 12, 2023 an awareness session was conducted on Ragging and its consequences by Mr. Paulose Kuttampuzha, Sub Inspector of Police Traffic Unit and faculty in Cyber Crime, Kerala.

The session emphasized the following;

  • Ragging is a cruelty against humanity.
  • Briefed on the history and exact meaning of ragging, its possibilities, causes, different ways of ragging, and its adverse effects on students with examples of life events.
  • Explained the Kerala Prohibition of Ragging Act-1998, different laws and regulations regarding ragging and also the helpline contacts.
  • Explained different situations that make a man the culprit.
  • Inspired the students with his heart-touching life experiences.

On August 15, 2023 Essay writing (English) competition, on the topic, ‘Ragging –a nightmare of every newcomer’ was conducted for the B.Sc. Nursing students.

On August 17, 2023 Essay writing (Malayalam) competition on the topic ‘Ragginginte Kanappurangal’(റാഗിംങ്ങിന്റെ കാണാപ്പുറങ്ങൾ) was conducted for the B.Sc. Nursing students.

On August 18, 2023 Poster Designing (water/poster colour) completion on the topic, ‘Stop Ragging, Promote Learning’ was conducted for the B.Sc. Nursing students.

The students participated actively in various competitions and the winners were awarded prizes. The following are the results of the competitions:
