Events

• Students of Amrita School of Computing celebrated the Vinayagar Chathurthi festival on 06.09.2024. During the festival an idol of Vinayagar was kept inside the campus and performed pooja for 7 days and the Murti was carried in a procession with music and group chanting, then performed Visarjana on 12.09.2024. Dr. Chidanandamrita Chaitanya, Director, Campus Development, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Nagercoil started the pooja along with Dr. Kannan T., Principal and Mr. Prabhakaran V., Senior Administrative Manager. The students, faculty members and staff accompanied with the procession.

• Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Nagercoil Campus celebrated the Onam festival – “The Enthusiasm 2K24” at the School of Computing block on 13.09.2024. The celebration was started with pooja performed by Dr. Chidanandamrita Chaitanya, Director, Campus Development, who engaged attendees with an enlightening speech about the importance of celebrating Onam. The Principal Dr. Kannan T., Senior Administrative Manager Mr. Prabhakaran V., faculty members and students have participated in the celebration. The students of School of Computing coordinated the event in a successful manner.
• Amrita School of Computing, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Nagercoil organized the Internal Hackathon for Smart India Hackathon 2024 on 18-09-2024 in the Amriteshwari Hall. A total of 16 teams from different streams participated in the hackathon and presented their solution ideas for various problem statements and innovation categories of SIH2024. A panel of five jury members, Dr. Mahesh Kumar S.V., AP / ECE, Dr. Shyni P Nair, AP / ECE, Dr. Jayaram R.S., AP / Mechanical, Mrs. Sumithra R.P., Faculty Associate / CSE and Mr. Arun S., Faculty Associate / ECE evaluated the ideas and provided suggestions for improvement. The event was coordinated by Mrs. Rejini K., Faculty Associate / CSE, Mrs. Jothi Lakshmi S.L., Faculty Associate / AID, and SIH2024 SPOC, Dr. Thanammal Indu V., AP / CSE.
• On the occasion of Amma’s birthday, “Amritavarsham – 71” was celebrated on September 27 at our campus from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm in the Seminar Hall. Students from various departments participated, delivered speeches on Amma’s life and her service to humanity, and performed cultural dance.
• On October 9, 2024, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetam Nagercoil Campus hosted the celebration of Saraswati Pooja at the Amriteshwari Hall. The pooja was performed by Dr. Chidanandamrita Chaitanya, Director-Campus Development, who engaged the attendees with an enlightening speech about the importance of festivals and mantras. The event inspired participants to seek wisdom and knowledge, express their creativity, and embrace new beginnings. Dr. Kannan T., Principal, the Senior Administrative Manager Mr. Prabhakaran V., faculty members, and students have participated in the pooja and received the blessings of Amma and Goddess Saraswati Devi.
• The students and faculty members from various departments of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Nagercoil Campus participated in an ACM Workshop on Research opportunities in Computer Science Engineering through online conducted by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri Campus on 19.10.2024. The online workshop includes the topics like Crypto-research in India, Opportunities in Machine Learning in India, Research opportunities in Computing, schools and Centres, Visual Intelligence, Trends in Secure and Energy Efficient Embedded Computing, Computations, AI in Education and Exploiting LLMs for Scam Automation by eminent resource persons: Dr. Sumitra S, Associate Professor, IIST, Dr. Deepak Misra, Professor, IIST Dr. Sriram Sankaran, Associate Professor, Amrita Centre of Cybersecurity Systems and Networks, Amritapuri, Mr. Chandrashekar Lakshminarayanan, Assistant Professor, IIT Madras, Prof. Chandrasekaran Pandurangan, IISc Bangalore and Dr. Krithika Ramaswamy, IIT Palakkad.
• As part of the first-year induction programme, Amrita LEAP from the Amritapuri Campus organized VISTARA 2024, a one-day workshop series held from November 4th to 7th, 2024 for the CSE, AID, and ECE students of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Nagercoil Campus and the workshop was coordinated by Mr. Aravind C. B., Faculty Associate from the Department of Amrita Darshanam. This workshop was part of the University’s commitment for nurturing students’ holistic development through the theme “Education for Life.” Each department students attended a one-day workshop featuring insightful talks and interactive activities. Sessions were led by Br. Sivanandan D. S. and Mr. Sumesh K. P., with skill-based training facilitated by LEAP trainers Mr. Nithin S, Ms. Sayoojya, and Ms. Athulya. The program combined talks and interactive sessions focused on personal growth, teamwork, and Amrita’s core values. VISTARA 2024 provided students with essential skills, community bonding, and a holistic foundation for their educational journey at Amrita.
• The Institution Innovation Council (IIC) of Amrita Vishwa Vidhyapeetham, Nagercoil Campus was inaugurated on 8th November 2024. As part of the inauguration a special lecture on “Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Applications in Engineering” and “Data Science and its Applications” was held for the CSE and AID students. The lecture was conducted by Dr. A. Kannan, Former Professor, Department of Information Science and Technology, College of Engineering, Anna University, Chennai. The interaction of the students made the session particularly enriching and left the students with valuable insights.

• The students of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Nagercoil Campus, visited Vivekananda Kendra’s Ramayana Darshanam, gaining valuable insights into the timeless teachings of the Ramayana. A highlight of the visit was their interaction with Shri. Krishnamoorthi Ji N., Editor of Vivekavani, who shared his inspiring perspectives. The students also explored the majestic Vivekananda Rock Memorial, immersing themselves in the legacy of Swami Vivekananda and the profound spiritual heritage it symbolizes.

• The students of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Nagercoil Campus attended a guest lecture on “Robotics for Humanitarian Cause” and “Challenges of Autonomous Vehicles in Indian Context and Case Studies at Smart Center”. The lecture was conducted by Dr. Rajesh Kannan Megalingam, Director, Humanitarian Technology (HuT) Labs, H/O Sustainable Mobility and Automotive Research Technology (SMART) Center, H/O Amrita Coconut Research and Development (ACORD) Center and Professor, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri. His research in Autonomous Vehicles boost up the students with great ideas for facing the challenges in that zone.

• The students and faculty members of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Nagercoil Campus attended a guest lecture on “Tools for Enhanced Teaching-Learning” on November 22, 2024 by Dr. Swaminathan J, Chairperson and Professor, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri. The lecture facilitated the use of technologies to improve the learning experience, and the teaching methods that can actively engage students.

• Under the guidance of Pujya Swami Atmananda Puri, the first level of Ma-OM meditation training sponsored by Indian Council of Philosophical Research, New Delhi, was conducted for all the students of our campus on November 29th. Shri. Aravindan Neelakandan, Author & Writer, Consulting Editor, Swarajya presided over the event and highlighted the topics related to practical ways to maintain focus, relieve anxiety, various models of meditations and living a life of purpose and satisfaction. The convenor Dr. Nanda Gopal Biswas, AP / Amrita Darshanam coordinated the event.
• The department of Amrita Darshanam of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Nagercoil Campus organized an awareness programme “Compassion in Action 2024: Awareness Campaign on Campus Clean up Drive & Tree Plantation” for all the students on December 2nd, 3rd and 6th 2024. In order to protect the institution’s physical infrastructure, the campus clean-up campaign encouraged the students to maintain a clean environment. Additionally, the programme urged the students to plant more trees in order to control the climate’s temperature and create favourable weather conditions for rainfall. The programme was organized by Dr. Nanda Gopal Biswas, AP / Amrita Darshanam and Mr. Aravind C.B., Faculty Associate / Amrita Darshanam, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Nagercoil.
• The second level of Ma-OM meditation training sponsored by Indian Council of Philosophical Research, New Delhi, was conducted on December 5th for all the students of our campus. Dr. Anantasharma B G, Assistant Professor & Chairperson, Amrita Darshanam – ICSS, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amaravati presided over the event and highlighted the topics related to practical ways to maintain focus, relieve anxiety, various models of meditations and living a life of purpose and satisfaction. • The students and faculty members of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Nagercoil Campus attended a Webinar on “AI at Work: Driving Innovation and Impact in the Modern Enterprise” on December 6th, 2024 by Mr. Konda Reddy, Senior Associate Data Scientist, Bank of New York, Pittsburgh, USA organized by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri.

Computer Science and Engineering participated in the event “Sargamrita ‘24” at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore Campus and won the first position in Group Song (Western) on November 30, 2024.
• Mr. Gottumukkala Jithin Sai of first year B.Tech. Computer Science and Engineering participated in the Inter Campus Chess Tournament conducted by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Chennai Campus from December 1 to 2, 2024 and won fourth place.
