Samskriti: Collaborations With SPIC MACAY

Since 2010, we have been collaborating with SPIC MACAY, the Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth. It is a voluntary youth movement which fosters the traditional Indian values and generates awareness of the cultural traditions and heritage of India by organizing events of Indian classical music, classical dance, folk arts, crafts, etc. in educational institutions. We and SPIC MACAY share the same vision that, the awareness of the rich cultural tapestry is an important part of education.

Throughout the past few years, we have been successfully conducting a series of concerts and performances by professional artist volunteers from SPIC MACAY, who enrich student’s knowledge by explaining the subtle technicalities enshrined in the arts during and after their performances at Amritapuri campus.

Many students express that it is their first time of attending such Indian classical art performances and being able to understand the deeper traditional and cultural meanings behind. They enjoy a lot with great appreciation.

Apart from SPIC MACAY, we also have successful collaboration with other cultural organizations:

• With Kerala Kharana, we have presented “RAJASTHANI FOLK – Dance and Music” performance by Butte Khan and team, and Gazal concert by Anitha Shaiq.
• With Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi, we have organized a performance on Koodiyattam, which is a form of Sanskrit theatre traditionally performed in Kerala, recognized by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. Joined by School of Drama Thrissur, we have also conducted a 10-day workshop on Theatre and Music.
• With South Zone Cultural Society Tanjavoor, we have organized Festival of Kashmir, with the performances of various dance and music forms like Jabro, Lossar and Religious Mask Dance with Tungchen Chanter.
