Development of an Epidemiological Model to Modify Cardiovascular Risk Profile in Children

The objective of this study is to develop an epidemiological model for school-based interventions to modify cardiovascular risk profile. The study aims to identify ethical and practical issues with possible solutions in conducting such a study in an Indian setting. The major specific objectives of the pilot project are design implementation of the epidemiological model, identification of ethical, logistic and practical issues associated with implementation and derivation of probable solutions to identified issues.

In addition to these major specific objectives, the study has two specific clinical objectives. The first one is to identify the biophysical profile of cardiovascular risk factors including risk prevalence in the population. The second is to identify the effect of the proposed intervention on this profile and at risk prevalence in the intervention population. This enables the tested design to be revised and equipped for implementation of an epidemiological study on a larger scale.
