Event studies have application in many areas for measuring the impact of an event on stock returns and systematic risk around the time of an event. Typical events are mergers and acquisitions, earnings announcement, financing decisions, government regulations, assessment of insider trading and market manipulation, demonetisation, covid-19, election results, exit polls, monetary policy. Some events have firm specific impact and some have market wide impact. Event studies are joint tests of market efficiency and a model of expected returns.

The proposed study intends to look into the impact of economic events on firms returns in the short term and firms performance in the long run. The study also intends to find the impact of political connectedness on these results.

Faculty Profile

Dr. Balasubramanian P. has twenty-four years experience in teaching and research and two years of industrial experience. He completed his Ph. D. from Jawaharlal Nehru University. He teaches core courses in economics and elective courses in finance viz., financial derivatives, personal finance, financial modelling and valuation in the MBA programme. His research interests are Event Studies in Economics and Finance, and Behavioural Economics. He has published in academic journals such as Vision, Cogent Economics and Finance, International Journal of Corporate Finance, Vision – MDI Journal and international conference proceedings. Currently he is Professor Finance, Amrita School of Business, Coimbatore.
