Abstract : The key to the sustained progress of any community is directly dependent on the is availability of the qualified human workforce. Skilling the human resources play a vital role in effective utilization of the human capital. Skilled labor is an impetus whereas unskilled labor retards growth. This brings to the fore the importance of skilling in a nation like India where more than 60% of the population lives in rural communities. The purpose of the study is to understand sustainable skilling and its impact on the rural future of the villagers of Nani Borvai, Gujarat, India. An Ethnographic research methodology was used for study. The study also used Human centered design tools along with participatory tools. The PRA tools has been used to give the study a direction and momentum. The results revealed the overdependence of the community on agriculture. The results also analysed the requirement of new skills suitable for the community and their acceptability of the same. The personas and scenarios revealed the way the community perceive the skilling. The paper further analyses the data of the study and present an ideation of a skilled rural future. The potential of the women to be skilled and play an active role in building rural future is also discussed in the paper.
