Abstract : Herein we describe the synthesis of a novel Schiff base ligand, 2-((3,5-dimethoxybenzylidene)amino)pyridin-3-ol (DMBAP) (1) and its tin(II) coordination complexes-Sn(DMBAP)2 (2), Sn(DMBAP)(phen) (3) and lead(II) coordination complexes-Pb(DMBAP)2 (4) and Pb(DMBAP)(phen) (5). Mixed ligand complexes (3 and 5) were obtained using 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) as an additional bidentate ligand. Structural characterization of the compounds were carried out using FT-IR, UV–Vis, NMR (1H and 13C) and mass spectroscopy. The structures proposed for the compounds were in good agreement with the data obtained from various characterization techniques. The fluorescence studies of compounds were performed in DMF solutions (10−5 M). Significant red shift in the emission spectra of the complexes were observed in comparison with the emission spectra of ligand. The ligand and its complexes were subjected to in silico analysis against bacterial and fungal proteins such as flagellar motor switch G and MFS multidrug transporter (MFSmt), respectively using homology modelling tools to predict the structure of the proteins and molecular docking tools to analyze the activity of the synthesized compounds against the proteins.
