Abstract : The study of surface modification by using supported monolayers of phosphorylchlorine containing phospholipids for developing blood contracting materials were discussed. The study also focuses on blood compatibility of the supported monolayers of phospholipid , glycolipid and cholesterol binary and ternary lipid combinations using vitro techniques. The blood compatibility of these supported monolayers was studied by protein adsorption, blood cell adhesion and calcification. It was observed that an increase in calcification to the surface modified with loosely packed polar headgroup were helpful for the modification for blood-contacting materials.
