Abstract : This paper proposes an algorithm for improving the transient stability of a synchronous generator connected to infinite busbar during fault condition using Static Synchronous Series Compensator (SSSC). Here a 6-pulse bidirectional converter with sine PWM is used to inject a voltage in quadrature lagging with line current. The developed control strategy uses dq0 transformation for regulating the line current during fault for enhancing the stability. The complete simulation of the system is performed in the MATLAB/Simulink environment. Simulation results show that the transient stability of synchronous generator is improved using SSSC.
