Abstract : Software-defined vehicles (SDVs) are an emerging technology in the automotive industry, changing from software to hardware. This paper discusses the total restructuring of the automobile at different levels, including user experience in terms of advanced software-driven capabilities, over-the-air updates, real-time connectivity, and service-oriented architecture. It is all about the evolution of SDVs, their primary characteristics, how they are implemented, and which middleware supports their performance. Other critical issues for SDVs are the safety standards they must comply with and the intricacies of hardware-compatible software applications. Thus, the paper elaborates on all possible aspects and illuminates how SDVs can bring innovation and drive new opportunities for the automotive industry.
