Abstract : The paper suggests selection of communication technology for a smart micro grid, which needs to perform a variety of power system control actions based on real time data, through ns2 simulation of available technologiesand validation on hardware simulator. The simulation results suggest a heterogeneous network for communication. The paper also puts forth the steps required in the design of communication architecture for smart distribution grid. The smart micro grid hardware used for the study is also described.
