Abstract : Biosensors are replacing conventional sensors because of their specific advantages. Biosensors are widely used in clinical and medical fields. This chapter presents the classification of different biosensors in detail, and also provides a brief description of electrochemical biosensors. The subclassification of electrochemical biosensors, namely, amperometric, cyclic voltammogram, potentiometric, conductometric, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, is discussed fully. Environmental pollution is one of the major issues facing human beings: here we discuss application of biosensors related to detection of contaminants in air, soil, and water.
