Abstract : This paper introduces the basic concepts of real time video streaming using GStreamer through an open source low cost platform - GNU Radio. The GStreamer serves as a base to create many types of multimedia applications such as video editors, streaming media players and media broadcasters. It can help educators to face the challenges of different learning styles and enhance the way in which students can process and use the information. A simple web camera is used to stream the video to the GNU Radio through a GStreamer pipeline. Streamed data can be received and transmitted by a server in real time using Mplayer. The transmitted video is displayed at the receiver block. At the receiver side, buffering is done to store the live video stream. The proposed technique provides a reliable means of sharing real time videos among people using RTL-SDR and USRP. © 2014 IEEE.
