Abstract : The posterior approach is often used in spine surgery. While most surgeons are well versed with this approach, we intend to describe its use in deformity surgery, which often has subtle differences when compared to standard procedures. Like any other surgical procedure, preoperative counseling, medical evaluation of the patient, and meticulous preoperative planning are essential. Standing anteroposterior, lateral, and supine side-bending views of the whole spine are obtained. MRI is also part of imaging to rule out intraspinal anomalies. CT is often helpful in assessing the pedicle dimensions and anticipating issues in screw placement.
