Abstract : pUltrasonic and Infrared sensors are widely used for environment perception in most of the robotic navigation systems. In this paper, the behaviour of Ultrasonic and Infrared waves on human body and metal surfaces is carried out. The sensors were integrated in a mobile robot platform for acquiring the distance data. The sensed data was analysed both statistically as well as computationally to provide meaningful interpretations of the sensors responses on those surfaces. This analysis helps to design suitable algorithms based on the performance ranges of individual sensors. Fuzzy logic based analysis (both Type-1 and Type-2) was performed over the sensor data for the possible sensor data fusion. © 2017 Elsevier Ltd./p
