Abstract : This paper introduces the predictive current control (PCC) as the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technology for the identification of global maximum power point (GMPP) when the photovoltaic (PV) system is subject to partially shaded conditions (PSC). PCC incorporates the Perturb & Observe (P&O) and the predictive mean value (PMV) approach to extract maximum power from the PV array. P&O is used in the first phase to get the optimal current so that the maximum power from the photovoltaic panel can be extracted. In second phase, the PMV strategy uses the reference current obtained in phase one. This step calculates the optimum ON time of the DC/DC converter switch for the next control cycle. This includes estimating the optimal operating time for the next step in phase two using the reference current in phase one. The proposed approach is compared to traditional P&O, incremental conductance (INC), artificial bee colony algorithm (ABC), and ABC-integrated P&O (ABC-PO) methods in order to validate its efficacy during uniform irradiance and PSC. The entire system is analyzed using MATLAB/SIMULINK version 2015b.
