Abstract : High Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) of the transmitted signal is a major drawback of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM). In Selective Mapping (SLM) technique, input data is multiplied with different number of phase sequences prior to OFDM modulation. The OFDM sequence with lowest PAPR is selected and transmitted. In order to reconstruct the data at the receiver, phase sequence must be transmitted as side information, which leads to loss in data rate. In this paper new SLM technique is used for PAPR reduction of convolutionally coded OFDM signal. U numbers of different sequences are generated by inserting different bit labels at the beginning of the data. At the receiver side, the receiver dose not need any side information and the bit labels are discarded after decoding. Usage of convolutional coding will offer two advantages, significant PAPR reduction and astonishing bit error rate (BER) performance. In addition the simulation results of Complementary Cumulative Distribution Function (CCDF) of the PAPR and the Bit Error Rate (BER) of SLM technique implemented OFDM system and SLM technique implemented Convolutionally Coded OFDM system are obtained and compared.
