Abstract : Taguchi technique was employed to find out the optimal cutting parameters in face milling operation of AISI 1005 steel using TiN coated tool. Three cutting parameters i.e. spindle speed (N), depth of cut (dc) and feed rate (f) were optimized with consideration of surface roughness (Ra) and material removal rate (MRR). Experiments have been performed based on L9 orthogonal array. Effect of cutting parameter were analyzed using ANOVA and the results shows that the depth of cut and feed rate influences the responses the most. Furthermore, confirmation experimental test has been conducted based on optimal parameter to justify the results. Surface roughness and MRR obtained at optimal process parameters were 2.97 µm and 0.96923 g/min respectively.
