Abstract : The on board charging system is built into the electric vehicle to charge the battery from AC grid, which transforms AC power available from external source into DC. The medium and high power electric vehicle can be charged based on full bridge LLC resonant converter, which is preferred because of its soft switching features for wide input range, which reduced switching losses. The battery is charged by CC-CV controller based LLC resonant converter. Since the battery is charged from AC grid, there is a requirement of rectifier which converts grid AC to DC, which is the input for the resonant converter. Here, Vienna rectifier is used as an active front end rectifier. It does both front end rectification and active power factor correction. Here, the battery is charged using front end Vienna rectifier cascaded with full bridge LLC resonant converter, thus forming on-board charging system.
