Abstract : The influence of changing the aspect ratio on the aerodynamic characteristics of flow over a trapezoidal cylinder is numerically explored. The study is conducted for a Reynolds number (Re) of 100, 0.0 ≤ d/D ≤ 1.0, and 0.5 ≤ h/D ≤ 2.0. The governing equations of fluid flow are discretized using the finite volume approach and solved using the PISO algorithm with the open-source CFD package OpenFoam. The effect of varying d/D and h/D on the mean coefficient of drag , rms value of lift coefficient Clrms, and Strouhal number St are discussed. For all cases of side length ratios, consider the dominates over the and trend of is similar as that of . For all h/D and d/D values investigated in this study, the , Clrms, and St were found to be decreasing.
