Abstract : In this era of data revolution, transmission of information in any modality is of due importance. Error free transmission of these different forms of data using existing technologies, within the shortcomings of limited bandwidth is one of the current challenges in communication. A comparative study on performance of OFDM based on ML detection, in transmitting digital data in different forms viz. image, text and audio is discussed. Different symbol mapping techniques viz. PSK and 4, 16, 32, 64 QAM's are compared, assuming an AWGN channel model, for SNR in the range 0-30 dB. Apart from Bit Error Rate, Mean Square Error based analysis is also carried out for validation. Results of the study show that amongst these modalities analyzed, text can be efficiently transmitted using OFDM with ML detection.
