Abstract : Optical imaging has several applications from simple photography to advanced defence and space related needs. A system comprising laser, detector and nanopositioning stages is automated to perform point-by-point scanning of objects for imaging application. Experiments are performed on a metallic sheet having parallel slits and a razor blade to demonstrate imaging at visible and infrared wavelengths. The need of laser based imaging for certain applications requiring 3D mapping is discussed. The importance of reported work towards building a terahertz imaging system is outlined.
