Abstract : India, along with many other developing countries, has a rising concern for physical disabilities. The aging population, hypertension, and other contributing factors to disability-causing diseases such as stroke, osteoarthritis, etc., are rising. Such concern highlights the fact that there is a need for Rehabilitation Exoskeleton systems in India. It can be seen from literature, that among other things, the cost of Rehabilitation services is a significant factor that keeps such services away from the needy. The design should hence be economical, and the constituent parts are indigenously sourced. Here in this paper, the need for and the existing work of exoskeleton systems will be discussed, highlighting the need and requirements of exoskeleton systems in India. Kinematics of a proposed Lower limb exoskeleton system design will be presented and discussed.
