Abstract : Internet of Things-based automobile safety systems is the emerging technology that provides safety to the driver as well as the passengers during any accidents. Airbags have been the last mile of safety provided during collisions. However, there exist no two-wheelers that have incorporated sensor technology to collect vehicle data and the technology of airbags nor have introduced any means to transmit it wirelessly to the traffic control department and the hospitals. A two-wheeler is most commonly used in India because of its economy and ease of transport. But it has proven to be the deadliest in terms of accident cases in India. In most cases due to a lack of collection of the accident location, immediate medical assistance is unable to be provided. This paper focuses on implementing an IOT-based two-wheeler safety system by installing multiple sensors and detecting accidents to actuate airbags for rider safety. The proposed algorithm creates a two-factor confirmation to prevent the false triggering of airbags. The sensor data and GPS location of the two-wheeler are transmitted wirelessly using IoT to the cloud through which a nearby ambulance is called for immediate medical assistance if fatalities occur. The traffic control room is alerted about the accident to help reduce congestion in the area and a visualization dashboard is provided to monitor the occurrences. Moreover, for the rider’s safety, machine learning-based helmet detection is incorporated to alert the rider continuously if the helmet is not worn and turn on the bike only if a helmet is turned on. The overall system aims to achieve minimum severity during any kind of collision of the two-wheeler.
