Abstract : This paper proposes a three-dimensional optimal guidance law for intercepting a stationary target with bounds on terminal impact angle and lateral acceleration. This is a Proportional Navigation (PN) based guidance law with maximum of three stages where Navigation gains are chosen in such a way that the interception happens in minimum time. The proposed solution is based on three dimensional (3D) path planning for computing optimal paths for given initial and final positions and orientations. The work is motivated by the non-optimal solution existing in literature, which was based on Sliding Mode Control-based guidance law. Several configurations have been considered to generate optimal paths and the comparison with the existing algorithms shows the efficacy of the proposed guidance law.
