Abstract : Family members play a vital role in providing care to the persons with severe and enduring mental illnesses (SEMIs) in low-resource settings like in South Asia. The family caregivers have multiple roles which include bringing the patient to the hospital for treatment, staying with him/her during the inpatient stay, supervising medications while in the community, and taking care of day-to-day requirements as well as financial needs. The family caregivers need professional help in coping with the caregiver burden. This chapter discusses family-led care of persons with SEMIs, its various facets, family burden, and coping strategies employed by the caregivers in improving the family-led care in such situations.
