Abstract : This paper aims at analyzing multiple grinding characteristics of Al/SiC composites produced by stir casting. Desirability function-based approach is employed wherein the process parameters like wheel velocity, work piece velocity, feed rate and depth of cut were varied to obtain optimum tangential grinding force, surface roughness and grinding temperature. Experiments were conducted on a cylindrical grinding machine using Box-Behnken Design (BBD). Experiments were carried out using Al 2 O 3 grinding wheel of diameter 300 mm. Empirical models were developed for the grinding process parameters of Al/SiC composites for predicting the optimum tangential grinding force, surface roughness and grinding temperature. The results showed that high wheel velocity, medium work piece velocity, low feed rate and low depth of cut are necessary to minimize the tangential grinding force, surface roughness and grinding temperature for grinding of Al/SiC composites.
