Abstract : In multiple-antenna systems, electromagnetic interference between antenna elements is a matter of major concern. This paper depicts an efficient and simple method to improve isolation between array elements without deteriorating the performance of the antenna. An array of spiral resonators (SRs) is proposed as an effective solution for diminishing mutual coupling in a microstrip array antenna that consists of two elements. With the inclusion of spiral resonators, the intensity of this problem can be reduced. By employing this novel structure, a 8.32 dB reduction in mutual coupling is feasible. An isolation of 26 dB is acquired in a two element array at 2.4 GHz by making use of the proposed resonator. The performance is analyzed using scattering parameters technique and the simulations are realized through ANSYS HFSS software.
