Abstract : Electricity has taken an irreplaceable role in our lives. It powers our homes and enables a vast range of technological advancement over the past few years. It also plays an important role in Industrial, commercial and healthcare sectors. This makes monitoring of energy consumption more crucial than ever. Traditional energy meter often depends on manual readings, making it prone to human error and thus inadequate. Smart energy meters, with an integration of IoT, make use of sensors and communication devices to collect data such as units consumed and the current bill. This can help in seamless reading and remote monitoring of data. This model makes use of Arduino UNO, ESP32, ACS712 and ZMPT101B sensors for this purpose. It also helps the user to identify energy intensive applications and in turn, increase energy efficiency. One standout feature of this system is electricity theft detection. Energy theft is a concern for electricity distribution companies worldwide. This model makes use of simple mechanisms to detect tampering and trigger an alert accordingly.
