Abstract : Efficient syntheses of (±) [2-2H2]mevalonolactone and (±) [2-2H2]homomevalonolactone involving condensations of lithiotrimethylsilyl [2-2 H2]acetate with appropriate 3-oxo-alcohols are described. Regiospecificity of the label was established by NMR spectroscopy.
